Happy Third Blogoversary!

Do you remember this picture? I sure do. It was used on my very first post, “Hanging On For Dear Life”, three years ago.

Three years ago? Can you believe it’s been three years already? Where does the time go?

Lots of things have happened in our lives since then. For most of us, they’ve been too numerous to count. I mean, some of us have been thrown a curve ball or two in the midst of trying to eek out a living and at the same time, follow our passion. And for those of you who are fortunate to make a living off of your passion? Congratulations to you!

As you may have noticed, my blog has grown silent over the past couple of months.

Why, you may ask?

Well, because of life actually. I had too many things that demanded my attention. And the blog, for one, was not a priority. So I let it go. But then, as weeks went by, it became easier not to blog. I mean, who cares if I blog or not? Does it really matter?

It’s not like I’m saving lives or changing the world. It’s just little ‘ol me writing a little ditty about nothing very earthshattering. Nothing that could put an actual dent in someone’s existence.

So I thought, why not take a look back at my first post and see what my purpose was for starting this venture. What was my core motivation for blogging? After all, there had to be some reason why I had decided to jump into this crazy endeavor.

Here’s what I said:

“Since this is my first blog, that picture got me thinking. What is my purpose for writing a blog? Yes I’m petrified, but I’m certainly not dangling on a rope suspended from the rooftop of a high-rise hotel.

“My hope is that through my writing I will be able to touch people’s lives and connect with others that will in someway benefit them and not just myself. Just know that as I embark on this new venture, I will be hanging on for dear life while I look out from on top, ready to descend that steep and slippery slope, putting myself out there amongst the unknown galaxy of the universe, otherwise known as the internet, sharing a little splice of our lives.”

Ah, interesting. That picture says more than a thousand words. It’s a great motivator, is it not? But notice something else. The purpose of this blog was not to write strictly about myself. And I think that still rings true. I get great satisfaction writing about life and other people. I find it stimulating to share things with you that stem from a variety of topics.

No, it’s not all about me. Although some day it may be when I get ready to release my new little baby out into the world. Yes, I’m still working on that one. But believe me, when it’s finished, you’ll be the first to know!

Meanwhile, it’s Happy Third Blogoversary!

It’s good to be back!

So what do you think? How has life been treating you? Do you find it easy or difficult to blog? Does life get in your way, or are you able to navigate through the muddy waters? What helps to keep you motivated? What topics have you found interesting lately?

Cheers everyone! And as always, thank you so much for all your support and wonderful comments!
Karen

Fear as a motivator? Why not? Sometimes chasing and best of all, overcoming those things that we fear most is exhilarating to say the least. Jumping off tall buildings (albeit tied to ropes) for which someone else has little control over your actions allows for an exciting opportunity to simply “be you”. When you place everything in context, isn’t it simply just great to be alive!

Interesting note from a friend of mine (Peter Mayer) who sings and plays guitar with the Jimmy Buffett group…”…Sailor man comes to the islands, island man goes to the sea” Isn’t it true how we all see things so differently based on where we are at the moment. No need to apologize for not writing – it’s defined as time to simply “be”.

Hi Craig! So nice to have you visit my humble abode! I agree. Fear is a great motivator. Thus the picture. But I don’t know if I would call it exhilarating. I guess it would depend on the motivator behind the fear. You would not catch me jumping off of tall buildings, rope or not! And that would simply be me being me. And that is how you and I would differ my cousin. Nice quote by the way. Nicely said. 🙂

Hi Karen. Welcome back and congratulations on year three. It has indeed flown. Blogging is really, really hard. Your rappelling photo says it well. Nothing like hanging out over open space. It’s good though. It makes me research, think through and question things I think I believe, makes me look at what other writers are writing, at what sells, what doesn’t and why.

Glad that life has let go of you enough for you to get back to what you love. Looking forward to your posts.

    Happy blogiversary, Karen!
I like blogging, but I find i have less time to do it. And I feel the same way you do the longer I go in between posts. I begin to consider not blogging, but then I write a post and start connecting and I’m glad I did. 🙂 I’m definitely grateful to be in this blogging world with you, Karen!

Hi Karen, my friend! It’s always a complete pleasure to visit your blog. Never fails to be a feel-good read. But that’s because of YOU!

Like your blog, my little blog has been woefully neglected. I shifted my focus quite a bit this past year and took much of my ‘conversation’ internal, if that makes sense. Then, as you said, the longer I didn’t blog, the easier it was to avoid. *sigh*

But, I’m ready to get back to it and share some things. 🙂

    Hugs!!

Oh Ginger, that is really nice of you to say. But I think the feeling is mutual my friend. Love you posts and you are sorely missed in the Blogosphere! And yes, I understand the language of your people. Internal conversation makes perfect sense to me. So glad to hear that you’ll be back with us. I look forward to your next post. I know it will be inspiring! Hugs back atacha girl! And thanks for all your support! 🙂

Where has the time gone?! I was blogging for a bit before our WANA group on a joint blog with Lisa Hall-Wilson, so I think I’ve been at it about 4.5 years now. It hasn’t seemed like it’s been that long. Wow.

I’m very proud of how you’ve continued to move forward toward your goals even when life has tried to knock the stuffing out of you. You’re an inspiration to a lot of us, even if you don’t realize it.

Aw Pat, thank you! It’s been nice to have you as a friend for these past few years! Say what? Really? Did you just post this because it hasn’t come in my email yet and I thought the link was fixed girlfriend. I’m hopping over there now! Especially since Murphy’s involved. No telling what’s happened. And somebody had to put a dent in it Pat. Might as well have been me. Just try to get rid of me now! ((Hugs!)) 🙂

Happy Blogaversary! That means we’ve been friends for three years, too! Funny it seems like much longer than that. I totally understand what you mean about wonder what the purpose it. Lately, I have been feeling like that every time I write a blog. Like, does anybody care? Would anybody notice if I just stopped? But I have a friend who texts me if I don’t post a blog. She doesn’t comment, so sometimes I forget she’s there, but she says it is a part of her Thursday and she doesn’t feel right without it. That is something we forget about- there are people reading who don’t comment. And we never know how much we could be impacting them. I am so glad you are back! I look forward to many more posts from you. 🙂

We forget about others that read our posts but either are shy or they don’t have the time to leave a comment. Thanks for bring that out girl. See, that’s what we love about you! 🙂

Hi Karen! This is lovely – and a Happy 3 years to you! I so relate to the part about life taking over, and how easy it is not to bother with the blog. I’ve really been struggling with that lately. Life has certainly taken over, and while that’s not a bad thing, I do miss the blogging community. It’s had such a positive impact in my life. If you ever find the happy balance, please tell us what it is! 🙂

Congratulations on three years of blogging, Karen! Yes, life gets in the way and my blog has taken a back seat, but time is passing so fast and soon the grandkids won’t need me as often, and I’ll be more knowledgeable and experienced at my new job, will know so much more about clean eating and detoxing, and all the other things I’m learning and loving, so blogging will play a bigger role in my life soon enough. I’m looking forward to having time to write all the posts that keep nagging me for attention. Patience, little blog posts, have patience!

Lots of wonderful things coming your way, Karen! I hope you get a chance to blog about them when the time is right! Looking forward to celebrating your debut novel shining all over this blog one day!
