Summer’s here!
And what do you normally do when it is a holiday weekend? Spend time with family, go on a mini vacation, have friends over for a BBQ. You know, take time off and have some fun. Right?
Me? I decide to write a post.
I know. I need to get a life. Lol.
Okay, it’s obvious, I don’t care as much as I should about the blogging. And I know I should care. I do care. Really, I do. But, you see, I’ve been preoccupied with the edits. Lots of edits. Lots and lots of edits. As in, terminal editing. I think it’s a disease!
Will it ever end?
At some point, I am sure I will have to let this baby fly on its own. Yet, for now, there’s still much work to be done. And so I press on.
Meanwhile, summer rushed in while I’ve busied myself with the writing project. Long, hot summer days are now spent in air-conditioning for the most of us. Unless you’re at the beach.
Oh yes, the beach. I really miss the beach. Have I mentioned that already?
How’s it going over there, Murphy?
(See, I left the bird behind, excuse me, mascot at the beach. He was better off. There’s a beautiful wildlife sanctuary along the coast in Huntington Beach. Truly he’s more suited for that environment. I mean, when’s the last time you saw a pelican in the desert? I thought not.)
Murphy has agreed to be my foreign correspondent for all things beachy and coastal in SoCal.
Are you there, Murphy?
Yes, yes, I’m here. Quite nice, actually. No air-conditioning in my neck of the woods.
Don’t rub it in Murph, okay?
Sorry. I’ve noticed a number of posts on Facebook containing ocean waves on your FB page Karen. Here’s one I especially like.
(Photo curtesy of Chris Harsh, surfer extraordinaire)
(See, this is why I left that crazy pelican behind.)
Okay Murphy, we’ve got the picture. Thank you.
Anything else that I can help you with? Just let me know. I am at your disposal. A Picture of hot babes in bikinis, perhaps? Or I could send over a shot or two of our beautiful weather. Maybe a picture of a couple of buff surfers would do the trick?
That’s quite enough Murphy. Thank you.
Righto! Cheerio!
So, what was I saying? Oh yes. Summer is in full swing. And you know what that means?
Here’s the scoop. Summer means Ice Cream.
Blueberries are just the cherry on top.
Why do I say that?
Well, can you imagine summer without Ice Cream?
I didn’t think so.
Picture a glorious hot summer day with a creamy, dreamy scoop or two of your favorite flavor.
See what I mean? My mouth is salivating! What do you think Murphy?
Does it come in fish flavor?
(This is what I get for asking.)
Why don’t you go for a short walk…Oh, never mind Murphy! Just skedaddle. Adios!
Anyway, my personal favorite is Straus Family Creamery’s Organic Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. It’s tradition back to the basics. In other words, perfection. And for those of you that are sensitive, it’s certified kosher, gluten free and Non-GMO Project Verified.
It’s like fresh churned Ice Cream!
Then add in fresh, organic blueberries on top and you get my drift.
Happiness on a hot summer day at the McFarland’s.
So what to you think? What is your favorite Ice Cream flavor? How’s your summer going thus far? Have any plans for a family vacation? What fun things help you and your family stay cool over the summer?
Cheers everyone! I hope that life is treating you well. And as always, thank you so much for all your support and wonderful comments!
Karen
My favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip. I also enjoy cookie dough every once in a while. Our vacation this summer was a frugal one, since we just bought our own place. We went to visit friends in Missouri for a few days. It was wonderful to reconnect, to see a new place, and even catch a glimpse of the Mississippi River!
Good luck with your edits, Karen! Make sure to treat yourself to some ice cream when you’re done. 🙂

Another Mint Chocolate Chip girl! You fit right in Denise. I’ve read about your new place. Congratulations to you and hubby! How exciting. That’s sounds like a wonderful trip. Catching up with friends is one of the best things in life. Thank you for all your encouragement and I’ll be sure to treat myself! 🙂
Chocolate, Rocky Road, and all the other flavors. Vanilla at the bottom of the list!
Murphy is a crackup. Thanks for the giggles, Karen. I’m still unpacking, organizing, and all that fun stuff. Are you guys settled in? Yay for AC. I love that photo of the wave!
Lynn Kelley recently posted..Laugh and Live Longer
Hi Lynn! Love your list of flavors. Yummy! Especially since it’s warmed up quite a bit. And Murphy? Oh, he’s a character alright. That photo was taken by a very talented surfer/photographer. What did we do before the days of GoPro? Don’t you just want to take a dive into the water? Stay cool my dear friend! ((Hugs)) 🙂
Ha! I just polished off a bowl of chocolate ice cream (the only flavor worth the calories) while sitting in the AC in my vacation rental near the Chesapeake Bay. I think I should go take a walk down by the harbor. Oh, and I am also editing at the moment. It is tedious sometimes but it does end eventually.

I wouldn’t know about the end of edits Kassandra. I think it’s terminal. We’ll see. But chocolate ice cream is well worth the calories especially if you’re able to walk them off along the Chesapeake Bay. I hope you and hubby had a wonderful time. 🙂
I was just daydreaming about ice cream and reading on the beach earlier this evening. Settled for a walk with an audiobook and some chocolate.

Well see. I had a feeling this would strike a cord with y’all. Can’t go wrong with an audiobook and chocolate. But you have to admit, ice cream and the beach seem to go together, don’t they? Keep it cool Jess and thanks for dropping by! 🙂
Chocolate. I know, boring. Hope your edits are going well, and looking forward to whatever you are editing!

Hi Julia! You are not alone. Chocolate seems to be the favored Ice Cream flavor. I hope you’ve enjoyed a cone or two this summer. Ah yes, the edits. Well, we’re moving along. Lots of work. But it’s looking much better. And I hope y’all will be reading whatever it is real soon. Thanks for the encouragement my friend! 🙂
Sweet post, Karen! (Pun accepted. ;))
I love chocolate ice cream, especially if it has brownie bits or fruit toppings. Delish! And now I want some for breakfast. 🙂

Ice Cream for breakfast August? Why not! We can eat chocolate in any form 24/7. Ice Cream is a great way of keeping it cool. Enjoy! 🙂
I love ice cream! Number one flavour on my list would be orange chocolate chip!!
Orange chocolate ship? Wow Yvette, that sounds like an amazing combo. Enjoy my friend. And congrats on your new book! 🙂
What would we do without ice cream, summer or not? I was the girl who went into Baskin Robbins and ordered vanilla. I’ve grown a bit since then – Moose Tracks is a fave and mint chocolate chip w/chocolate sauce and raspberries is divine! But rich vanilla is still the one that’s always in the freezer.
PS: Murphy is awesome!

Hi Jennifer! Well said my friend. What would we do without ice cream. I cannot even imagine it. And chocolate chip is a favorite in my house, mint or otherwise. I’ll pass your compliment along to Murph. Thanks girl! 🙂
Yay for ice cream! Typically I’m a vanilla gal–with pb and chocolate, but when the temps heat up I love blueberries and lemon! My fave is putting a little lemon curd with vanilla and topping with blueberries. 🙂
Hope you’re staying cool, Karen! Happy writing.

You better believe it Coleen! Yay for Ice Cream is right! Ooh, now that sound amazing. I never thought of using lemon curd with the vanilla. Although I am, and always have been a blueberry girl. I’ll have to try this. Thank you for sharing it! Now go enjoy and stay cool this summer! 🙂
Ice-cold watermelon is my favorite treat of summer, but your fave sounds delicious, too. Speaking of ice cream, I discovered a new-to-me Italian desert that’s easy and yummy: affogato. Pour a shot of espresso over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s easy but makes for a special end to a meal.
How’s life in your new home?

Hi Pat! Thanks for your double visit today. Always good to see you. Well, we’re getting settle in. But since we’re a bit older, it took more time than we liked. That’s okay. It’s not like we’re in a race. We have plenty of time to get nestled in. Ooh, fab dessert recipe. Love the sound of Affogato. I must try that. Right up my alley. And may I say, a perfect way to end a meal with friends. Wish I could share it with you! 😉
Wow, Murphy’s got quite the attitude going on. He’s adapted well to being your “all things beach” correspondent. Maybe a little too well.
I like ice cream, but only on occasion. The older I’m getting the less and less I enjoy sweets. Is that weird? The only thing I get an actual craving for, the one thing that I must never, ever buy (unless that craving is too strong to bear) is soda. I know it’s so bad for me, but every once in a while, I MUST have a soda. Non-diet. Ice cold with lots of fizzies.
Have a great summer and put those edits down for a little while and get yourself to the beach.

Hee, hee, hee! Oh yeah Patricia. Murphy has always had attitude. I am hope he’ll be a good fill-in for our beach reports. I am determined to keep one foot in SoCal. There’s got to be a way to stay cool around here. How are the plans going for your move? That’s happening soon, yes? Meanwhile, enjoy a summer treat of your choice! And stay cool! 🙂
Glad to see another blog from you! And I hope your A/C holds up.
Mmmm, ice cream…. and definitely not just for summer! My fave is either chocolate with peanut butter syrup (i.e., Reeces peanut butter cup sundae) or mint chocolate chip. Right now we have Kroger’s Denali Mint Moosetracks in the freezer. It will not last long!
Jennette Marie Powell recently posted..Reporting Late for Round 3
Hi Jennette! Thanks girl, it’s so nice to hear that. I’m trying. And yes, I would have a meltdown if no A/C existed in this neck of the woods. Love the chocolate/peanut butter and of course chocolate chip. Do I see a theme here? Chocolate seems to be your flavor. Enjoy that Mint Moosetrack! 🙂
Okay, now you’ve done it Missy. I’m on the way out for a ice cream cone. Love to Murphy. Tell him to stop screwing with my day. Oh, and don’t fall into the old eternal edits thing, dear friend. Just stand up and yell, “It’s finished.” and let ‘er fly or die.
Bless

Hi Prudence! Oh yay! Thank you for your encouragement my friend. But since I’m a newbie, this craft thing is taking me longer to apply. And I don’t want to release something that isn’t ready and will drive the readers nuts. So, I’m hard at work perfecting my craft. Good news is, I’m getting closer. Now go enjoy that Ice Cream! 🙂
